Most Common Mistake Couples Make When It Comes To Counseling
Real Life Solutions Counseling, Inc.
Hello. I am Laurie Shoats. I am a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist with over 25 years experience.
People often ask me what is the most common mistake couples make when it comes to therapy.
The answer is simple. Most of my clients even mention it when they make the initial phone call to me or when they are in my office doing their initial assessment.
My couples often say things like, “I think we may have waited too long.”
Or, “I wish we had done this sooner.”
Or, “It may be too late to save our relationship.”
Sometimes they are accurate.
Relationships can be too stuck in an unhealthy pattern to make positive changes. This, of course, depends on the individual.
Relationships can be saved if each of the partners is willing to do whatever it takes to make the relationships work.
Unfortunately, many people feel justified in their ways or already have their interest in another person.
It is never too soon to seek counseling.
My couples who do premarital therapy are better equipped with the tools, insight and emotion regulation to cultivate a healthy marriage.
So, the most common mistake couples make when it comes to therapy is waiting too long.
The chances of saving you relationship are greater if you seek support and education sooner rather than later.
Is it time to give your relationship a tune up before it is too late?
Call me, let’s chat.
