Sex Tip

Real Life Solutions Counseling, Inc.

Have you ever wondered why men and women behave differently after sex?  If you have then you are not alone.

There is a hormonal component driving the gender differences in post-coital behaviors.

One of the main hormones responsible for this is Oxytocin.

Oxytocin is produced in the hypothalamus and released by the posterior pituitary gland. It is released into the blood stream after an orgasm.

Oxytocin causes a man to roll over and go to sleep, possibly wanting a sandwich prior to that. Yes, this is something often joked about but there is a physiological reason behind men wanting to do this.

In women, oxytocin produces the urge for bonding. This is why women want to cuddle and engage in “pillow talk” after sex. So men, your partner is not being “needy”, she is just responding to her hormones.

Oxytocin is also produced during child-birth and while breast-feeding.
