Self-care is NOT Selfish
I have been working with people for over 25 years now. A common trend I see much more prevalent in women than men is guilt associated with self -care.
Men have an easier time engaging in their hobbies ( a form of self-care) as compared to women.
So often, I hear women discuss who they “used to be” as well as” unfulfilled dreams”. These discussions are pre-empted with the women discussing how they feel “drained” or “exhausted “.
When I give my female clients homework to engage in their hobby, or some other form of self-care, and then discuss how they felt, I usually get one of two outcomes.
- They simply didn’t do it.
- They did it but felt so guilty that they were unable to enjoy it.
Ladies, you must take care of yourselves! Self-care is not selfish. It’s essential. That’s the only way to prevent burnout and exhaustion which leads to resentment.
Resentment leads to dissatisfaction in a marriage.
This can lead to a lack of intimacy or no longer feeling close to your partner.
And I’m sure you can guess what that could lead to.
Do you need help understanding the benefits of taking care of yourself in order to better take care of your family?
Call me, let’s chat.
