Social Media and Relationships – Real Life Solutions Counseling, Inc.
Hello, friends.
If you are reading this then odds are that your relationship is being affected by social media in one form or another.
When I was learning about psychology and relationships, there was no internet or social media. There were no classes being taught on the impact of social media and how people interacted with each other.
Everything I have learned is from seeing firsthand how social media has played a role in relationships.
I get asked often from my male clients if some women ever try to “play games” on Facebook or other social media. If you are a woman then you know the answer is YES! Whether you have participated in this or someone you know has, you are aware that this happens often.
Women will “block” and then “unblock” their exes in order to “get a reaction” from them.
Men often ask what the best way to handle this may be. Well, that depends on their desired result. So sorry, there is no “one size fits all” answer.
Are actions like these reserved for just the twenty-somethings? NO! I have seen all ages engage in manipulative social media practices.
Another way social media plays a role in relationships is that is makes it very easy and “tempting” to some people to secretly reach out to their ex-partners through private message or another route. Many people view this as a form of cheating or infidelity. Cheating/infidelity is a very subjective thing so no one can say whether it is or it is not.
Are you experiencing issues related to social media in your relationship?
